RISE Advisor
Job Description
Summary: Supports student in the RISE program on the Road to Independent Living, Spiritual Formation, and Employment. Advisors will do this in the different advisor roles (Learning Advisor, Vocational Advisor, and Teaching Assistant) offered based on shifts offered and availability of the student.
Essential Duties:
- Engage with RISE students in an active manner to support them to their personal level of success
- Build rapport with each assigned RISE student.
- Serve as primary accommodation in the environment you are serving in.
- Attend any meeting with RISE staff and 1-on-1 meetings as requested.
- Attend monthly meetings with RISE staff as part of ongoing training.
- Complete required reports and submit to RISE staff.
- Perform the essential duties of each specific role you are assigned to
- Other duties as assigned.
Expectations:
- Complete all onboarding materials before first shift
- Arrive on time for each shift
- All advisors our required to submit their availability at the requested date of the staff to be considered for scheduled shifts. If an advisor availability changes, they must submit a new form and send an email to the RISE Program Manager
- To receive payment everyone must turn in their required report each shift by the end of that day and remember to punch in and out. If a report is not submitted along with the punch in/out then those hours will not be counted. If missed punches are not corrected or communicated the Friday before payroll approvals are due, those hours will not be counted. Any notable situations or student issues should be communicated directly to the appropriate staff along with being reported on the shift report.
- To change shifts advisors must communicate in slack and to required staff to find replacement or it will be counted as a no show. After 3 no shows of a scheduled shift employment will be terminated.
- When you change shifts please discuss with the person that will fill in for you about the student and what they are currently working on.
Required Qualifications:
- Desire to serve students with disabilities
- Ability to stay calm in crisis situations
- Ability to be flexible in scheduling and availability
- Ability to stay patient when having to explain the same item multiple times
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working one on one with special populations including but not limited to the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Down Syndrome, Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (IDD)
Learning Advisor Essential Duties
- Provide one on one support to assigned RISE students in traditional Judson University catalog course
- Communicate any disciplinary actions from course faculty immediately to RISE Program Manager
- Assist assigned RISE student with note taking in class
- Proctor exams outside of the classroom as needed or requested
- Submit detailed Class Reports at the end of each class session
- Communicate any RISE student absences immediately to RISE Program Manager or available staff
- Break down complex terms and concepts into easier to understand language as needed
- Communicate any known absences within one week of the absence (exceptions may be made due to medical or academic concerns, as well as athletic events)
- Attend meetings called by RISE Program staff as necessary
- Document maladaptive behaviors and complete incident reports as needed
- Attend regular Student Advisor meetings as part of ongoing disability training and leadership development
Vocational Advisor Essential Duties
- Provide one on one support and assist RISE student with their on-campus/off-campus work site
- Report to RISE Program Vocational Coordinator regarding any questions or concerns having to do with yourself or student, while also providing regular updates on student performance
- Complete Vocational Advisor Shift Report at the end of each internship time
- Communicate, alongside the student, with the Work Site Supervisor in order to inquire about the specific duties he/she may desire from both the student and yourself during the shift
- Serve as a liaison to the Work Site Supervisor in order to gauge the student’s performance, making sure the student is trained efficiently and maintains a high level of focus and motivation
- Redirect RISE student when getting off task at job site
- Breakdown complex work tasks into easy to understand steps for assigned RISE student
- Help our student develop independence and self-advocacy skills within the workplace, communicating potential growth areas to work on as well
- Assist our student with any interpersonal skills (i.e. tell Work Site Supervisor about a shift student will miss) in the workplace
- Assist in the development of verbal and physical workplace boundaries between assigned RISE student and job site staff
- Uphold self and RISE student in a professional manner as a reflection of Judson University & the RISE Program
- Assist in setting up transportation to and from work site (off-campus)
Teaching Assistant Essential Duties
- Assist RISE faculty with classroom management
- Provide one on one support to students as needed or as directed by RISE faculty
- Assist with classroom instruction as needed or requested by RISE faculty
- Record attendance during each scheduled class session
- Record classroom data at the end of each scheduled class session
- Break down complex terms and concepts into easier to understand language as needed
- Communicate classroom concerns to RISE faculty, RISE Program Director and/or RISE Program Manager
- Document maladaptive behaviors and complete incident reports as needed
- Assist RISE faculty with grading as needed or requested by RISE faculty
